Description:
Breastplate of hammered and embossed gold alloy with the design of a supernatural being, representing a hybrid between squid and bird. Conte Style. The squid figure is the most immediate and it’s shown from a dorsal view. From the bottom up, we can see the triangular mantel with a rhomboidal fin attached to its lower half, the neck and the head with prominent round eyes and a large horny mouth in the shape of a parrot’s beak from which four arms come out (the other four cannot be seen) covered by round suckers. In the middle of its mantle there is a large triangle and another thirty-three triangles border the breastplate. If we turn the figure 180 º, we can observe that the arrangement of the arms and the head of the animal draw the profile of two birds facing each other with large eyes and curved beaks. The whole of the figure is a hybrid being at the same time one and double, squid and bird. It has four orifices for hanging at eye level and at the beginning of the mantel. 18x19.8 cm
