Commentary:  The presence of hypoplastic lines has been noted in several recovered teeth (canines, premolars and molars), both in the form of holes and horizontal lines. Hypoplasia of enamel occurs on the outer surface of the tooth, as a reduction in enamel thickness that manifests itself in the form of horizontal lines.

Since mineralization only occurs during the age of tooth formation, hypoplasia is a reliable indicator for recording the developmental events an individual suffered during childhood. Their presence is associated with weaning age, inadequate diet and/or gastrointestinal infectious food diseases reducing the ability to synthesize amoeblasts.
